“I've experienced a huge transformation at UFV, especially in my business classes. It's not just the course content—you learn about the real world. Post-graduation, I plan to live abroad, then come back to Canada to further my education.”

Curious about the meaning of the word "Íyáqáwtxw"?

In the Halq'eméylem language of the Stó:lō people, "Íyáqáwtxw" means "house of transformation." Featured on UFV’s institutional Coat of Arms, this motto reflects the university’s status as a place of change; of intellectual and personal transformation.

As UFV's Chancellor Emeritus Gwen Point explained when unveiling the Coat of Arms, "UFV is a place of transformation — in both knowledge and character — and this new symbol reflects the inclusion of Indigenous values and concepts, while emphasizing a new path forward together with the UFV community."

So, we welcome you to Íyáqáwtxw, your House of Transformation. This is your space to grow and evolve, ignite your passion and cultivate knowledge. We're here to help you gather what you need to go forward and change your world for the better.

Learn the proper pronunciation of "Iyaqáwtxw".

UFV’s campuses are located on the territory of the Stó:lō peoples. We express our gratitude and respect for the honour of living and working in what they refer to as Stó:lō Téméxw (Stó:lō Sacred Land).
