PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Welding Foundation certificate program — previously known as Welding Level C — offers you the best basic training for entry-level employment in a broad variety of welding and steel fabrication. You get layout and fabrication experience by completing hands-on exercises and projects, using top-of-the line welding equipment.

  Sample topics include:

  • Oxyfuel Gas Cutting (OFC)
  • Gas welding and braze welding
  • Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW #1)
  • Air carbon arc gouging (AAG)
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding  (GMAW #1)
  • Flux cored arc welding  (FCAW #1)
  • Material Handling
  • Blueprint Reading
  • Mathematics Welding Metallurgy

After you complete your Welding Foundation certificate successfully, you can earn your Red Seal by completing Welding Level B and Welding Level A at UFV.

CAREER EXPECTATIONS

Graduates will be well prepared for a variety of job opportunities in metal-working industries such as aerospace, construction, energy production, transportation, manufacturing, agriculture, and more. They may become:

  • Production welder
  • Maintenance welder
  • Welder-fitter
  • Welder-fabricator
  • Foreperson or inspector

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

UPGRADING OPTIONS

If you’re currently or recently employed as a welder, our upgrading program allows you to complete your certificate requirements or to become proficient in a specific process or technique.

As an upgrading student, you are expected to meet program prerequisites through previous enrolment or proof of industry experience, approved by the program instructor.

Upgrading students cannot be enrolled for more than 13 weeks or cannot displace anyone registered in an upcoming intake.
