Working with animals training program

The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) requires that all personnel who work with animals in teaching or research at UFV must be knowledgeable about the principles of humane experimental science and ethical issues associated with the use of those animals. This also includes knowing the 3Rs tenet (Reduce, Refine, Replace) and understanding the risks of working with animals.

To meet this educational goal, UFV has developed an online training course based on the CCAC modules available through Bright Space (myClass). These training requirements are mandatory for all animal users (instructors, researchers, staff, and students).

Get started in CCAC training and become certified

To enroll yourself or your students in the training, email acc@ufv.ca. Provide the Animal Care Committee with your Banner ID or your class list with student numbers to have your students enrolled in the training. Once certified you will not be required to re-take the modules unless the CCAC policies change.

Are you a newly appointed Animal Care Committee member?

We are happy to arrange your training and a personal tour of UFV's animal facilities.

Guidelines

For general guidelines on the use of animals, such as procurement, endpoints, euthanasia, husbandry, training, etc, please check out the CCAC general guidelines website.

For guidelines on specific animals, please check out the CCAC Types of Animal Guidelines.

Please read the following guideline for information on when animal use needs to go onto an animal use protocol. Please note the ACC needs to be informed of most animal use to confirm if it needs an animal use protocol or if it is an exception.

Requirements for submitting an animal protocol

If your animal use does not meet the requirements for an animal use protocol, please complete the form below and submit to acc@ufv.ca.
