Grounded Innovation 2.0
Early May 2025, the Food and Agriculture Institute hosted Grounded Innovation 2.0: Sustainable Food and Agriculture Summit, the launch of the University of the Fraser Valley’s Chilliwack campus as the SF4C Innovation - West Coast node of Sustainable Food Systems for Canada (SF4C). The event brought together researchers, policymakers, Stó:lō Elders and knowledge keepers, and industry leaders to explore what’s on the horizon for agri-food innovation in Canada and the Fraser Valley specifically. With keynote presentation from Dr. Evan Fraser, Arrell Food Institute University of Guelph.

Chief Tyrone McNeil, who leads the Stó:lō Tribal Council and Emergency Planning Secretariat, presented in advance of the Emergency National Food Security Summit, new to this year that had summit participants form break out groups to answer the question: Given the increasing complexity of the world in terms of environmental and political challenges, where should Canada focus its energies to best achieve leadership in the food technology arena?
