Biography

I started my teaching career at Okanagan college in September of 2021 and joined the Chemistry department at UFV in August of 2025.  It's been a privilege to teach and mentor first year students and see them develop their scientific curiosity and chemical intuition. I completed my PhD in 2012 under the supervision of Prof. Jack Saddler (UBC Vancouver) where I worked on combining aspects of analytical chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, and microbiology to adapt a chemical pulping process for its use as the front end of a wood-based biorefinery. Upon completion of my graduate studies, I spent nine in years in industry, where I was part of a team that adapted a thermomechanical pulping process for use in a biorefinery. This project ultimately resulted in the commissioning of a 100 metric ton per year demonstration plant in Thunder Bay, Ontario. As a result of my previous experience, I show my students the applications of the chemical principles taught in my courses as well as the interdisciplinary nature of science. I also hold a BSc and MSc in Biochemistry from SFU, and a Graduate Diploma in Management from McGill.
