UFV as a Student Ready University

In 2023, UFV launched the 2023-2030 Strategic Enrolment Management Plan (SEM). Aligned with UFV’s values, mission, and vision, SEM identifies strategic priorities related to student recruitment, admissions, enrolment, retention, and graduation. Strategic Imperative #10 is to enhance student experience and strive to be a Student Ready university.

What is a ‘Student Ready University’?

Student Ready is a commitment we make to students that we are ready for them, that we believe in them, and that we are invested in, and focused on, their success. Everything – our policies and practices; pedagogies and approaches to student learning; physical and virtual environments; student supports and services; and so on – is focused on student success and on removing barriers to that success.

What are the principles of Student Ready?

  • We teach, support, and engage the students we admit.
  • We create a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students.
  • We embrace empathy and compassion
  • We believe in all students, holding them capable and accountable.

What are the 4 pillars of Student Ready?

Student Engagement and Voice

Students engage in multiple roles in all aspects of the institution as participants, planners, creators, programmers, assessors, and more. Student voice and experience is respected and heard.

Inclusivity

Every part of the institution is inclusive of students with varying backgrounds, experiences, and identities. All actively work to identify and remove barriers to the success of all students and to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Supportive and Developmental

Everyone supports and encourages students; emphasizes their strengths; and ensures what we do is relevant to students and focused on their success.

Usable and User-Friendly

We ensure our language, content, services, purpose, policies, procedures, etc. are clear, accurate, accessible, engaging, relevant, and understandable for students.
