Health Sciences faculty are actively involved in research in a variety of areas and research topics. Below is a summary of some research currently being conducted by health sciences faculty. Students enrolled in health sciences programs may have the opportunity to participate in research. Opportunities within kinesiology and nursing will be updated frequently and listed below.
Postpartum and Perimenopause Research
Dr. Iris Lesser is seeking students who are interested in womens health and physical activity, specifically in postpartum and perimenopause. This could include being part of a working group which presents postpartum physical activity workshops in the community or working together to carry out a research topic as part of a KIN 401/402 or a special project topic as part of a KIN 488.

Kinesiology Student Volunteers Needed for the Junior All-Native Basketball Tournament
The Junior All-Native Basketball Tournament (JANT) is an annual event in its 50th year and in 2026 is being hosted in Langley. The event welcomes ~120 teams, 1,200 players and 10,000 travelers for one of the largest Indigenous events in the country on an annual basis.
The Junior All-Native Basketball Tournament in partnership with UFV is seeking interest for first aid/volunteer athletic therapists to attend this event.
The event seeks volunteers to help offset the costs to host such an event. The event guidelines have a strict mandate where the host can charge a maximum of $300 per team to participate and that means the host must rely on partners in the community to help offset the operational costs of the event. Our goal is to have every court covered with volunteer first aid and/or athletic therapists.
The tournament dates are March 16-20, 2026 (Monday to Friday). Coverage would be heavy Monday to Wednesday, with 7 courts at once starting at 8:30am and running to 9:30pm (roughly 9 game slots). Coverage for Thursday and Friday would decrease significantly.
Ideally every volunteer would have first level first aid, and then if people have further certifications, then we can assign them to the higher performance gyms (i.e. athletic therapist potentially taping ankles if needed at the U17 gyms)
The organizers would ensure all materials are provided for you (tape, first aid kits, etc.) so you are not paying out-of-pocket for those. The organizers would work with you to ensure every gym has a medical table.
Please send expressions of interest along with relevant experience including courses you have taken and certifications to the Director of the School of Kinesiology Dr. Michael Gaetz (michael.gaetz@ufv.ca) no later than November 30, 2025.
