Program description
Gain the essential skills you need to enter the field of information technology. UFV's Computer Information Systems (CIS) certificate is a two-semester program that prepares you to support small companies that rely on single-user systems.
Courses emphasize practical learning. You'll apply what you learn through hands-on projects in UFV's well-equipped labs.
You can also choose courses based on your interests, so you can focus on areas like web support, user technical support, or computer support.
Go to the program outline in the UFV Academic Calendar.
If you want to enhance your skills, you may also consider the CIS diploma or degree program.
Career expectations
You'll graduate from the CIS certificate program ready for entry-level roles in:
- web support
- user technical support
- computer support
- end-user support
An IT career offers many paths, and the BC Labour Market Outlook lists several as high-opportunity occupations with strong projected employment and wages, including information systems analysts and consultants, computer programmers and interactive media developers, software engineers and designers, web designers and developers, computer engineers, network technicians, and computer and information systems managers. Other options include UX/UI design, database development, and computer security. Some roles require a diploma or degree, which you can work toward by continuing your studies at UFV.
To make sure graduates have in-demand skills, the School of Computing meets with an advisory committee of industry experts from both the private and public sectors. Their expertise helps shape courses and programs to keep them current and innovative.
