UFV is committed to fostering a campus culture built on consent, respect, and shared community spaces.
Expressions of affection are natural, meaningful, and an important part of intimate relationships. It’s also important to be mindful of our surroundings and ensure everyone is comfortable in shared spaces. While UFV is home and community for many students, we want all members of the UFV community to feel respected. Here are some helpful guidelines to keep in mind when expressing affection on campus:
Understanding shared spaces
Most spaces at UFV are considered shared, public spaces. This includes (but is not limited to) classrooms, study pods, stairwells, or parking lots, for example.
What’s okay?
- Holding hands, hugs, and brief kisses – simple, respectful gestures of affection
What requires discretion?
- Longer or more intense displays of affection – keep in mind that everyone’s comfort levels may vary
What’s not allowed?
- Exposed nudity and hands under clothes in public areas.
Using shared spaces in ways that respect everyone’s comfort and safety is key to maintaining a positive campus community for all.
