Employment Insurance (EI)

If you're registered in technical training apprenticeship classes at UFV as a Skilled Trades BC apprentice, you may be eligible for financial support through Employment Insurance (EI) benefits from Service Canada. This support can help reduce financial stress and allow you to focus more fully on your studies.

How To Apply

Gather required documents

Collect the following items before applying:

  • Skilled Trades BC apprenticeship number

  • Record of Employment (ROE) - ROE code ‘J – Apprenticeship training’

  • Social Insurance Number (SIN)

  • Direct deposit banking information

  • UFV class start and end dates

Apply to WorkBC for reference code

Complete this step up to 4 weeks before your class starts:

  • Visit WorkBC online employment services

  • Sign in with the BC Services Card to verify your identity and account information

  • Expect an email within four days with a link to log into your WorkBC apprenticeship account—check junk or spam folders for delivery

  • Retrieve your 16-digit EI reference code from your account

  • For assistance, call the WorkBC Apprentice Hotline: 1-844-428-4730

Apply for EI through Service Canada

Once you receive your 16-digit code:

  • Visit Service Canada 

  • Apply for EI, using your 16-digit code 

  • Complete your first EI claimant report; answer “YES” to ‘Training’ and ‘Available for work’ questions

  • For Service Canada inquiries, call: 1-800-206-7218
