The Foundations of Sustainable Healthcare Microcredential introduces you to the intersection of healthcare, climate, and sustainability. By working with locally relevant content, BC-specific case studies, and applied action planning, you will develop the skills needed to advocate for change and promote sustainable practices within your specific healthcare setting.
Within this course, you will be provided with a structured education on sustainability in clinical and operational settings. Furthermore, the microcredential also supports the British Columbia government's goals for a low-carbon, climate-resilient healthcare system by providing learners with foundational literacy, applied skills, and leadership in sustainability practices and approaches.
By the end of this course, you will be able to advocate for and promote sustainable practices within your healthcare industry. You will also earn a digital badge that can be added to your resume, LinkedIn profile, and social media profiles.
Course Objectives:
- Explain the environmental, social, and economic aspects of sustainability in healthcare.
- Describe how climate change affects health, equity, and Indigenous communities.
- Identify ways to reduce the environmental impact of healthcare operations and clinical practices.
- Use systems thinking and change management tools to support sustainability initiatives in the workplace.
- Create a sustainability action plan relevant to their professional setting.
- Incorporate Indigenous perspectives and stewardship principles into sustainable healthcare decision-making.
