Adult Upgrading Grant

Please note: AUG processing may take up to 4 weeks - apply early!

Adult Upgrading Grant (AUG) is a provincially funded grant program, administered by UFV Financial Aid and Awards. It supports students with financial need who are enrolled in skills upgrading, education, and training courses.  

You do not need to be registered in classes to apply.

Who can apply?

You must meet all four of the following:

  1. Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident/landed immigrant, or protected person
  2. Live in BC (and continue to reside in BC while receiving AUG)
  3. Be enrolling in one or more of the following approved courses:
    • Adult Basic Education (ABE) – upgrading classes numbered 050-099
    • Workplace TASK program (AET)
    • ESL – English as a Second Language
  4. Have a demonstrated financial need
    • See income limits on the application form

What expenses can be covered?

  • Mandatory Fees (Ancillary, ELW, & Student Union and Society fees)
  • Textbooks
  • Supplies
  • Technology
  • Transportation
  • Unsubsidized Childcare
  • Tuition for Workplace TASK program

Note: Room and board costs are not funded

How to apply?

  1. Go to StudentAid BC AUG page.
  2. Download the fillable PDF application at the bottom of the page. 
  3. Open and complete the form using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Please ensure you are using Adobe to view and not your browser as it can be tricky to open.
  4. Save the completed form as a PDF (digital signature is allowed).
    • If preferred, you can pick up a paper copy at the Financial Aid office.
  5. Email your completed application and required documents to financial.aid@ufv.ca 
  6. Attach scanned copies of all required documents:
    • Proof of income
      • A copy of your previous year’s CRA Notice of Assessment
      • If you did not file income tax, a copy of T4 slips, pay stubs, ROE etc.
      • If you had no income, provide a statement explaining why
    • Spouse or parent income proof, if applicable

Emailed copy must be sent as a pdf attachment. Photos (jpeg, png) or links to shared drives will not be accepted. 

After you apply - What to expect

  • If the application is filled out correctly you will be notified of the results of the assessment within four weeks from the time the application is received.
    • If we require more information, you will be contacted.
  • If approved for funding:
    • Mandatory fees and/or tuition reimbursement will be electronically entered into your student record as a credit to your account. The payment will not show on your account until closer to fee payment deadline in each semester.
    • If you are eligible to receive other funding such as books, supplies or technology, a cheque will be mailed to you once you are registered, but not before the first day of classes.
    • A notification of all the above steps will be sent to your UFV student email.

Added an upgrading course after applying?

    Notify Financial Aid immediately within an approved semester – failure to do so will result in uncovered fees.

    Continuing next semester?

    Only one application is needed per academic year. But you must still notify us of continuing your upgrading courses into another semester.
