Program description
Build the skills to support people and shape strong workplaces.
Human resource management focuses on how organizations hire, train, support, perform, and develop their people. It plays a key role in workplace culture and helping organizations succeed.
In the Human Resource Management major, you learn about recruitment, employee relations, training and development, and compensation. This multidisciplinary program brings together ideas from business, psychology, and sociology to help you understand people, solve workplace challenges, and develop strategies that engage employees and support organizational goals.
This major also helps prepare you to pursue the Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation.
Program structure
Classes focus on teamwork, communication, and hands-on learning. You build skills through group exercises and real-world problem solving, while building your speaking and writing skills.
Years 1 & 2
Complete core courses in business, economics, math, and communications to build a strong foundation.
Years 3 & 4
Focus on specializations in human resource management and develop more advanced knowledge in areas such as labour relations, organizational behaviour, and human resource strategy.
Go to the program outline for the complete list of required courses and credits.
Professional designation
Graduates of the Human Resource Management major can work toward their Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation. Students who successfully complete the major and maintain at least two consecutive years of student membership with CPHR BC & Yukon may qualify for an exemption from the National Knowledge Exam (NKE), one of the requirements for obtaining the CPHR designation.
