Program description

Whether we realize it or not, we are shaped by society. Sociology explores how culture, power, identity, and social institutions influence our lives and communities. Explore topics such as ethnicity, gender, age, class, group behaviour, and social change to deepen your understanding of our diverse world.

This Sociology degree offers you flexibility, such as a major or minor combined with another subject. You can also choose to complete the Sociology major with a Social Research concentration. Sociology will prepare you with both practical knowledge about quantitative and qualitative research methods, data analysis, and disseminating research, which are valuable skills across a wide range of careers.

Throughout this program, you will develop critical thinking skills and the ability to:

  • Analyse complex social systems from local to global levels.
  • Examine inequality, identity, institutions, and social change.
  • Evaluate global challenges such as poverty, racism, sexism, violence, and climate change.
  • Apply sociological perspectives to real-world issues and policy debates.

If you want a broader perspective, you may also consider a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology.
