Dr. Gicas’ teaching interests include clinical psychology, neuropsychology, biopsychology, and psychological disorders.

Dr. Gicas’ research interests are broadly focused on understanding brain-behaviour relationships and how these are modified in the context of mental illness, addiction, and aging across the adult lifespan. She combines behavioural and neuroimaging techniques to investigate these relationships while working collaboratively with research teams locally and internationally.

One of her primary streams of research involves examining the neuropsychological functioning of persons who are homeless or precariously housed. In this work, she explores the cognitive and psychosocial predictors of functional outcomes and practical ways to build cognitive capacity and resilience in this marginalized group. An additional stream of research investigates early cognitive markers of preclinical Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
