Beliefs and Self-Control (BaSC) Lab (Zoë Francis)

Research in the BaSC Lab centres on two topics:

(i) self-regulation, including goal pursuit and mental fatigue

(ii) people's lay theories or folk beliefs.

At the intersection of these topics, some of our research looks at concept of “willpower theories": the beliefs that people hold about whether their self-control runs out with use or whether it sustains itself. The BaSC lab has also studied lay beliefs on other topics (e.g., perceptions of friendship, disability) and conducts research on other aspects of self-regulation (e.g., goal pursuit strategies, cognitive associations). Our lab includes honours students, directed study students, and volunteers.

Cognition & Complex Conditions (C3) Lab (Kristina Gicas)

This lab examines brain–behaviour relationships and how they are affected by aging and illness. Using behavioural methods, neuroimaging, and digital assessment tools, the C3 Lab focuses on improving understanding of cognitive functioning and well-being across the adult lifespan.
