Authorized Inspectors Course

Cost: $458
Prerequisite: Red Seal in one of the following: Automotive Service Technician (AST), Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (HDET), Motorcycle, and Truck and Transport Mechanic (TTM). Bring proof of credentials to first class.

This course prepares Red Seal trade-qualified mechanics to become Authorized Inspectors under Commercial Vehicle Safety & Enforcement (CVSE), a branch of the B.C. government.

Certification is required to perform Commercial Vehicle Inspections (CVI) at Designated Inspection Facilities (DIFs) and Preventative Maintenance Facilities (PMPs).

This course applies to inspections for

  • Commercial vehicles (including air-brake–equipped trucks and buses)
  • Personal vehicles (including automobiles, RVs, and light trucks)

Upon successful completion, graduates may apply to CVSE for authorization as an Authorized Inspector, permitting them to conduct official vehicle inspections in British Columbia.

Purchase the following textbooks for the first day of class:

  • Current Vehicle Inspection Manual from the UFV Bookstore (Cost is $97.95)

Students must have their mobile BC services card set up prior to class, this needs to be accessed through a mobile device such as a phone or tablet in class. Students must also have access to electronic copies of their BC Red Seal and Trade Qualification documents, this could be on a USB drive or web browser-based email, or document accounts such as google docs.
