Peer advising at UFV

At UFV, Peer Advising is a student-led program where trained upper-year students support your academic success and overall campus experience. Peer Advisors provide friendly, knowledgeable guidance on academic planning, course selection, and navigating university life. Having faced many of the same challenges you’re experiencing, they’re here to share their insights and help you make informed choices with confidence—whether you’re exploring programs, planning your degree, or balancing student life!

Peer advising FAQs

Peer Advisors are fellow students trained in advising who can share personal experiences and tips from their student perspectives. Academic Advisors are professionals who handle official advising like degree mapping, applications and transfer credits. Both support your success differently from 2 different perspectives.

Yes! Peer Advisors can help you explore different programs, majors, and minors by sharing information about available options, declaration requirements, and course planning for your first and second semesters. They can also share their personal experiences to help you understand what each path might be like. While the final decision is yours, Peer Advisors can definitely help you think through your options and feel more confident in making your choice.

Due to UFV’s large and diverse student population, the Peer Advising program is currently available only to students in the Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Arts (BA), Associate of Science, and Associate of Arts programs. If your program is not listed, you are encouraged to book an appointment with an Academic Advisor, who can provide specialized support and connect you with appropriate resources.

Meeting with a Peer Advisor isn’t just for when you’re facing challenges; it's also a great opportunity to discuss your academic goals, explore options, and gain insights from someone who understands the student experience firsthand. Regular check-ins can help you stay on track, plan, and make the most of your time at UFV.
