Awards and opportunities

There are a variety of awards and opportunities available when you enroll in the Bachelor of Integrated Studies or General Studies diploma.

Dean's Medal

Dean's Medals are awarded annually to one student from each faculty with a minimum GPA of 3.75 calculated on all UFV courses. The student must be outstanding in their program or discipline, exhibit promise in the field of study, and show outstanding service to the UFV community. The winner of a Dean's Medal may not also be a Governor General Medal winner.

Lieutenant Governor's Medal

Lt. Governor's Medals are awarded to students in a certificate, diploma, or degree program who have made outstanding contributions in support of inclusion, democracy, or reconciliation, on or off campus. These medals are awarded by the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia.

Criteria: As directed by the Offices of the Lieutenant Governor, students must have both a high academic standing and have been active members in their programs and/or post-secondary community in general.

Selection Procedure:
• Student candidates are recommended for the above award by written nomination by either a faculty member, a community member, or a fellow student
• A call for nominations will be initiated by the UFV Awards Selection committee
• Nominations will be submitted to Financial Aid and Awards for the selection by UFV Awards Selection committee.

Deadline: April 1

Student Convocation Speaker

Every year, one student from the College of Arts will be selected to represent all students at Convocation with an address as student speaker. It is a great honour to be selected as Convocation speaker, and the nominee is a well-rounded student, respected by other students and has excellent public speaking skills.

Nominations are gathered every year by faculty, and a final nominee is recommended to a UFV-wide committee.

The selected member receives an honorary certificate acknowledging they were a student speaker at Convocation, a letter from the dean of the College of Arts, and will be profiled in Convocation publicity.
