Program description
Study software engineering. It can help you create tech that solves real problems and improves lives. You could specialize in areas such as healthcare, education, sustainability, or transportation. It's a growing field in Canada, offering stable jobs with remote options.
Courses in machine learning, AI, systems design, analysis, and programming will teach you valuable skills. You'll also develop essential skills like problem-solving, coding, teamwork, and communication. After graduation, you'll be ready to meet the high demand for software engineers in Canada.
This program may be right for you if:
- you already hold a three/four-year bachelor's degree
- want to diversify your skillset and career opportunities
Go to the program outline in the UFV Academic Calendar for a complete list of required courses and credits.
Check the program schedules page for a guide to which courses to take in a given semester.
Career expectations
When you embark on a software engineering career, you have many career options. This program prepares you for careers in software development, testing, and management. You could become a software developer, full-stack developer, mobile application developer, or software engineer. Other career avenues include QA (quality assurance) analysis, systems analysis, game development, or technical consulting.
The BC Labour Market Outlook lists several computing professions as high-opportunity occupations with excellent projected employment and strong wages, including information systems analysts and consultants, computer programmers and interactive media developers, and software engineers and designers.
The IT marketplace is always changing. To make sure graduates have in-demand skills, the School of Computing meets with an advisory committee of industry experts from both the private and public sectors. Their expertise helps shape courses and programs to keep them current and innovative.
