The Faculty of Education, Community and Human Development (FECHD) at UFV is committed to “a place for everyone”. Our programs of study are organized into 3 Schools: The School of Social Work and Human Services (SWHS), The School of Education (SOE), and The School of Access, Information, and Lifespan Learning (SAILL). We are situated across three campuses in the Fraser Valley, including Abbotsford (including Clearbrook), Chilliwack, and Mission.
It is our philosophy that education is a human right and that all learners, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, ability, race, background or where they live, should have the opportunity to learn, grow, contribute, and flourish. In FECHD programs we promise an encounter with lifelong learning within a supportive community. Our faculty and staff are united by a shared commitment to learning that is accessible, meaningful, and transformative.
Our students are at the heart of everything we do. Our faculty and staff care deeply about student success — not simply in the classroom, but in the fullness of students’ lives. We recognize that learning happens through relationships, through curiosity and challenge, and through the communities we build together.
At its best, education is liberating. It deepens our understanding, expands our possibilities, and strengthens the communities to which we belong. It gives us the opportunity to encounter the unfamiliar, listen generously, think critically, and grow in ways we may not have imagined. Most importantly, education can give us a place to belong — a place where we feel seen and valued, where we can do our best work, and where we can become more fully ourselves.
Whatever your interests, experiences, or aspirations, I sincerely hope you will find a place for yourself within the Faculty of Education, Community and Human Development. There is a place here for your questions, your ideas, your ambitions, and your unique contribution to our community.
As Dean of this extraordinary faculty, I warmly invite you to come by and say hello. My door is always open, and I would be delighted to meet you.
