Description

My inspiration to pursue Kinesiology at UFV stemmed from a general desire to help others and an interest in learning more about the human body. The Kinesiology program at UFV offers a low-barrier to entry, allowing students to explore the program in a low-stakes and supportive environment. From my first semester, I knew UFV was the perfect fit for me and I felt right at home. Thinking about the transition from high school to university can be quite daunting, but the small classroom size, supportive professors, and integrative learning style at UFV lends itself well to those who thrive in such environments.

UFV has provided me with more opportunities for personal and professional growth than I could have ever imagined. Whether it was research opportunities, work-study, volunteering, or direct classroom work, I feel that UFV has provided me with a wide array of opportunities that have prepared me with the academic knowledge and soft skills necessary to become a great health care practitioner. I do not think that I would have the same level of passion, motivation, or confidence to pursue my future career goals if I did not attend UFV. Only through the experiences I have gained, relationships I have fostered, and academic foundation I have fostered can I proudly say that I feel well-suited for future career/academic endeavours. I am extremely fortunate to have attended UFV and have been able to partake in a large quantity and high quality opportunities that have contributed to my overall education in a meaningful way.

The small classroom size allowed me to build genuine connections with professors. Being able to get one-on-one support and individualized guidance makes learning accessible and inclusive for all. Rather than just feeling like "a student" in a classroom, I genuinely felt cared for, and felt that professors were on my side, rooting for me to reach my goals and succeed. The professors in the UFV Kinesiology program exceeded my expectations and are a big part of why I have loved my experience in the Kinesiology program.

The UFV Kinesiology program is holistic in its approach and truly sets you up for versatile learning opportunities to become a well-rounded student. The variety of courses enable you to gain a solid foundation about many different topic areas, such as physiology, psychology, anatomy, biomechanics, behaviour change, stress and chronic disease, and more. I believe that this program is one of the best programs to enter if you have a passion for healthcare, but are not exactly sure which field you want to pursue. Through exposure to many different topics, you can start to understand where your interests, strengths, and passion truly lies. The different streams in KIN also allow you to pursue the niche areas of KIN that interest you the most, allowing flexibility in the program.

A high school athletics injuries course inspired me to choose the Bachelor of Kinesiology at UFV.

What I’ve appreciated most about the program is the small class sizes. They’ve allowed me to build more personal connections and really improved my learning experience.

Working as a student trainer with the Cascades inspired me to pursue areas more involved with physiology and its relation to everyday life.

For future students, my biggest piece of advice is to put effort into connecting with others—whether through social events, clubs, associations, or simply engaging in class. Those connections make a huge difference in your overall experience.

Description

I went through an injury and was motivated to pursue physiotherapy - this degree is in preparation for that.

It has been a much more personable community than I thought. Classes and teachers have motivated me to continue this path. Being around like-minded students who are motivated in the same area as me has been really encouraging. Resources and connections with teachers are accessible and intentional.

Try to make early connections with other students - set up study groups and ask questions.

I chose to do a bachelor of Kinesiology at UFV after doing a year of a Bachelor of Science and realizing I liked the human biology side of things more. I was already enrolled at UFV, so it was a good option to just transfer programs. I initially wanted to eventually transfer out of UFV to complete my degree at another school, but I ended up really liking UFV’s KIN program, and the Chilliwack campus.

Learning the different professor’s career paths and how many options there are within kinesiology, has really helped open doors for future career options. I appreciate the small class sizes and how approachable most instructors are. Most will spend time answering questions after class or around campus.

The kinesiology program has not only exposed me to the theory, but has equipped me with a vast amount of practical knowledge, applications, and tools to use in the future. This program has led me to pursue a career in medicine where I can have a positive impact on other and help them live a healthy life.
