I am interested in all aspects of linguistics including vocabulary, syntax, morphology, phonetics and grammar. Language, and our capacity as humans to produce it, simply fascinates me. Is there anything more interesting than exploring the role of language in cognition or identifying the anatomical structures that enable us to create mutually comprehensible sounds as a shared way of communicating in our world and with each other?
After travelling in France and studying French Language and Linguistics at the University of Victoria and the University of Calgary, I spent some time living with a family in Chicoutimi while attending classes at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. Since then, I have taught Core French and French Immersion courses in the Fraser Valley with an exuberance for working with students at the beginning of their French learning journey. Helping students feel confident and capable early in their language learning is important work.
My master's research included an investigation into the social dynamics of French Immersion programs in British Columbia. I worked to unpack outdated misunderstandings about learner profiles, to reveal the diversity in our 21st century French Immersion classrooms, and to rebrand French Immersion as an inclusive educational space.
As the French Seminar Assistant at UFV, I hope to create a comfortable space where students have opportunities to take risks to speak French, to examine and understand their progress, and to develop their French identity.

"In my first year I realized that my passion was with French and it was something that was super enjoyable. I wasn't fluent to begin so it was a lot of work and effort but at the same time it was very rewarding. It opened my eyes to a new culture and a new way of life.
