School of Social Work and Human Services

Student Social Work Association

The Student Social Work Association (SSWA) is a student organization that strives to support, represent, and advocate for students in the Bachelor of Social Work degree and Diploma of Social Services program. SSWA provides a forum for students to voice concerns, make suggestions, and socialize with peers.

SSWA acts as an important communication link with the School of SWHS and faculty and ensures that students’ voices are represented on the Social Work Advisory Council and other SWHS committees. SSWA also ensures students are invited to faculty teaching demonstrations when hiring new faculty.

Furthermore, SSWA takes a major role in planning events to enrich the UFV faculty and student body, as well as local and global communities. For example, SSWA members, as part of an interdisciplinary committee, actively planned and orchestrated an international social work conference at UFV: Reaching Out Together: Connections Through Social Work 2015. Every social work student is encouraged to be involved in the Association in order to connect with their cohort and community.

The Association meets once or twice a month, in addition to planning and facilitating monthly events. Officers are elected in December and fundraising activities are ongoing. We have established a group email to enable students to be in contact with one another, as well as have access to current program information.
