BMO Collaboratorium for Students

Student applications will reopen in February 2026. Check back then for more information on how to apply.

Turn your research skills into real-world impact

The BMO Collaboratorium is a paid summer research opportunity for UFV undergraduate students interested in community-engaged work that supports peacebuilding and reconciliation. As a student researcher, you’ll be paired with a local community partner to help design and carry out a project that responds to real-world needs while receiving support and mentorship from UFV faculty and staff.

This is more than a job. It’s a chance to practically apply what you've learned in class to meaningful, community-directed research that makes a difference. You’ll gain experience, build relationships, and grow your skills in ways that extend far beyond the classroom.

Why work with us?

  • Gain work experience in your field of study prior to graduating.
  • Build connections and relationships with members of the community, university faculty, and like-minded students.
  • Receive training and mentorship from professionals in your field of interest.
  • Strengthen your skills in research, interpersonal communication, and cultural awareness.

What others have said

"My experience at the Collaboratorium was truly enriching. I am so thankful for the opportunity to use the skills I gained from my studies to work collaboratively towards peace and reconciliation in my own community.

I thoroughly enjoyed the diversity of the projects, the collaborative nature of the research, the fun and supportive environment of the shared workspace, the opportunity to learn from elders and knowledge keepers, and the emphasis on community driven research."

My experience working at PARC is something that I will never be able to replicate. Not only was I able to use tools I learned in my degree that I might not have to or need to in my future career, but I do not actually think I will ever work a job that is cooler or will have as big an impact in my personal life and view of the world.

Reflecting back on the experiences I have had and the hands-on learning that I have done through this job it is really hard to imagine a career that will be – in the simplest words available – cooler than working at the Peace and Reconciliation Centre. This job was not what I expected coming into it, but the experience has allowed me to grow as a learner and person. I will be chasing this career high for the rest of my life.

I greatly enjoyed my time at the collab. It was the perfect opportunity considering I was close to graduating, had acquired lots of skills, but had only ever used them in academic contexts. Being able to translate this experience into real, paid work not only showed that my work was valuable, but helped me further hone in my skills and identify areas where I can still grow (and there are a lot).

The work environment was by far the best I've ever had. It was refreshing to have employers that actually cared about me as a human being, and coworkers that felt more like a community rather than a bunch of people who are forced to spend time together. I am sad to go but content with the experience I've gained as a result of the Collab's unique opportunity.
