Xwelítem Siyáya: Allyship and Reconciliation Building program Assistant

The Xwelítem Siyáya: Allyship and Reconciliation Building program is an initiative rooted in Stó:lō teachings and was designed to deepen participants’ understanding of Indigenous histories, perspectives, and protocols.

French Translation Project

This project involved the translation, transcription, and indexing of handwritten 19th century journals of one of the earliest French Catholic missionaries stationed in Stó:lō territory. 

 

Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and John Lutz (2021 - Present)

Smallpox

In partnership with UVIC’s Dr. John Lutz, UFV’s Peace and Reconciliation Centre launched a research project that looked at the spread and impact of disease amongst Indigenous peoples in the Pacific Northwest. 

Abbotsford Police Department, Matsqui and Sumas First Nations (2024- Present)

Police and Sto:lo Reconciliation Project

This project was initiated by the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) in an effort to continue their work towards building more trustful relations with Indigenous communities and individuals. 

Homalco First Nation, Dr. Colin Osmond, Dr. Alessandro Tarsia (Present)

Homalco First Nation – Cultural Repatriation

In partnership with the Homalco First Nation, Dr. Colin Osmond, and Dr. Alessandro Tarsia, PARC has been conducting research into the history of the Homalco First Nation, with a focus on the impacts of the 18th and 19th century smallpox epidemics, raids by nearby Indigenous groups, and colonization.

Carving Lost Family History

This project was initiated by Ukranian-Heiltsuk carver Ivan Rosypskye and PARC’s director Dr. Keith Thor Carlson.

Sumas First Nation (2024 - Ongoing)

Project - Semáth Xhotsa Database Research project

Following the historic 2021 floods in the Fraser Valley and the 100-year anniversary of the draining of Sumas Lake in 2024, the Sumas First Nation sought to collect and organize archival materials in order to support the writing of a book about the lake from the perspective of the people whose identity was so tied to it.
