Deliverables

Database, Book in progress

Project description

Following the historic 2021 floods in the Fraser Valley and the 100-year anniversary of the draining of Sumas Lake in 2024, the Sumas First Nation sought to collect and organize archival materials in order to support the writing of a book about the lake from the perspective of the people whose identity was so tied to it. PARC assisted with the creation and population of this database along with the filming and editing of video interviews with Elders and Knowledge Keepers from Sumas.

Student involvement

PARC students created and populated a database with archival materials relating to Sumas First Nation and the drained Sumas Lake and filmed and edited video interviews with Elders and Knowledge Keepers from the community.
