Indigenous Fishing on the Fraser River in connection with Fort Langley
Partner
Parks Canada (2024)
Deliverables
Report for the creation of a display at Fort Langley
Project description
Initiated by Parks Canada, this project sought to gather information on traditional Stó:lō fishing practices on the Fraser River, such as dip-netting, night fishing, and ceremonial practices like the First Salmon Ceremony, in order to support the development of interpretive signs and programming at Fort Langley National Historic Site and increase public awareness of Indigenous fishing knowledge and practices.
Student involvement
PARC students gathered existing research from a variety of sources on traditional fishing practices and formatted that into a report for Parks Canada.
