Collaborating with BMO Collaboratorium

Partnering with the BMO Collaboratorium is an opportunity to advance research that matters to your organization or community. We work alongside community partners to identify research priorities, co-develop projects, and create meaningful opportunities for students to contribute their skills and learning in service of community-identified needs.

Each collaboration is unique. Together, we determine the scope of work, project timeline, student involvement, and resources required to support successful outcomes. Whether your project is focused on a specific short-term objective or part of a larger, ongoing initiative, we work with you to design an approach that aligns with your goals, capacity, and desired outcomes.

Why work with us

  • Identify and guide research projects that are meaningful and relevant to your community or organization.

  • Build relationships grounded in reciprocity, respect, and reconciliation.

  • Expand your organization's capacity through student-supported research, knowledge mobilization, community engagement, and project development.

  • Provide students with meaningful experiential learning opportunities that connect academic learning with community priorities.

  • Gain access to university resources, collaborative research space, and faculty and staff mentorship to support project success.
  • Work with a flexible model that can be tailored to your project's scope, timeline, and available resources.

Project Planning and Funding

BMO Collaboratorium projects are funded through community partnerships. During the planning process, we work with partners to identify project goals, determine an appropriate scope of work, and develop a budget that supports meaningful student involvement and successful project outcomes.

As every project is different, financial investments vary based on factors such as project complexity, timeline, student staffing requirements, and anticipated deliverables. Available funding helps guide the scale and duration of a project, and we work collaboratively with partners to develop an approach that is both realistic and impactful.
