Steps to apply to a Trades Foundation program at UFV

Note: Apprenticeship applications (Levels 1-4) follow different steps than those listed below.
Find out how to apply to UFV as a Skilled Trades apprentice.

1

Be aware of application timelines

You should submit your application as early as possible.

You can apply while you're still in high school, starting September 1 of your Grade 12 year.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. When you apply, you are applying to join the qualified applicant list for the program, not for a specific intake date or semester.

3

Apply online

Domestic students can apply through EducationPlannerBC.

Note: UFV is not currently accepting international applications for Red Seal programs.  International students can explore available program options through UFV International.

Application fee: You can pay your application fee when you apply using a credit card. You can pay by debit card or cheque on any campus, at the Office of the Registrar.

The application fee allows you to be added to the qualified applicant list once you meet the entrance requirements. Application fees are non-refundable.

4

Send us your transcripts (grades)

Arrange to send us official transcripts of all your high school grades and any post-secondary courses you've taken so far. Try to get this step done as early as you can.

See instructions for submitting your transcripts.

5

Wait for a seat

Seat offers are made to qualified applicants in the order that completed applications are received.

What to expect:

  • Many students wait approximately two years for a seat. Wait times depend on when you apply and how many applicants are ahead of you.
  • Your application remains on the list until you receive a seat offer by email.
  • You may defer a seat offer once if needed.

For a status update, email the program coordinator at trades@ufv.ca. Include your name, UFV Student ID or Applicant ID and the program you applied for. Your status will not be available in myUFV.ca.

6

Accept your offer of admission

A few months before the program begins, seats are offered to applicants in the order that completed applications are received. When a seat becomes available, you will receive a time-sensitive offer by email sent to your personal email address.

Please ensure UFV has your correct personal email address and that you check it regularly.

If you do not respond to the offer by the date indicated in your offer letter, the offer will be withdrawn, and this seat will be offered to the next applicant on the list.

You can defer your offer once. You will then be offered a seat in the next available intake.
