Career Services

Career Services offers a variety of resources for students and alumni. Career coaching appointments are available to assist you in all areas of the job application process. We also offer helpful handouts and student business cards to further develop your career.

If you are looking for career planning assistance or choosing career goals, please contact Counseling in Student Services.

Career Coaching

A 30-minute career coaching appointment can help students and alumni with the following:

1

Resume writing

The purpose of a resume is to provide an overview of your skills, education, and experience to potential employers. At your career coaching appointment we will assist you with content, formatting, and tailoring your resume to the job posting.

2

Cover letter writing

Cover letters help you highlight your key qualifications and experiences that are relevant to the job posting. Through your cover letter we will help you showcase the relevant skills you posess and demonstrate to the employer how they will benefit from these.

3

Interview skills

Interviews not only allow the employer to get to know you but give you a chance to see if you are the right fit for the company. At your career coaching appointment we will set up a mock interview and give you feedback, along with various tips and guidelines to follow before, during, and after the interview.

4

Job search skills

There are many ways to job search; internet job postings account for less than 20% of available jobs. An appointment with a career coach will give you a variety of resources to help you get started.

If you would like to book an appointment in any of the areas listed above please visit CareerLink and follow these easy steps:

  1. Login to CareerLink (if you have never logged in before, check your student email for password re-set instructions).
  2. Click on "Meet with a Career Coach" located under "Career Coaching" on the right hand side of the homepage.
  3. Fill out the requested fields and then submit your request.

Once you have booked an appointment, the Career Centre will review the appointment and either send you a confirmation e-mail or a cancellation e-mail. If you receive a cancellation e-mail, please reschedule.

Note: Please bring your resume, cover letter, and any relevant job postings and/or recent applications to your appointment.

The Career Centre Resource Room is located in room S3123g and is available Monday through Friday from 9:30 am–4:30 pm. Here students and alumni can make use of computers and reference materials for career related tasks.

Description

"I did multiple mock interviews in which I learned what types of questions could be asked, how to respond properly, appropriate interview clothing, and what types of questions I could ask the employer. The interview practice paid off because I landed that co-op job!"
