Math Department Pre-Calculus Test (MDPT)

The Math Department Pre-Calculus Test (MDPT) is a Grade 12 math ability indicator for the Mathematics and Statistics department only. It is a closed-book exam that covers the major topics of BC Math 12: algebra, functions, equations and inequalities, exponential and logarithmic functions, and trigonometry. Calculators and other electronics (including translators) are NOT allowed during the exam.

The MDPT may be used as a prerequisite for MATH 110 and MATH 111 if you achieve the scores listed below:

  • At least 55% for entrance into MATH 110 Pre-Calculus Math
  • At least 70% for entrance into MATH 111 Calculus I

If you score less than 55%, contact the Upgrading and University Preparation (UUP) department to Book a UUP appointment.

Register for the MDPT

To write the MDPT, register in advance through the Office of the Registrar (OReg) at any UFV main campus.

The $25 fee is due at the time of registration and is non-refundable; however, prior to the exam date, you may switch to another exam sitting at no extra cost.

The MDPT may only be written once.

Write an out-of-district MDPT

To register for an out-of-district MDPT, email to be emailed a set of step-by-step instructions.

Important things to consider:

  1. Requests to write an out-of-district MDPT must be received by Assessment Services at least 5 (five) business days before you plan to write the test.
  2. You will need to locate a qualified invigilator - a teacher, counsellor, or similar professional or another institution/testing center. It cannot be a relative, friend, or personal acquaintance.
  3. Prior to registering for the MDPT, you must contact Assessment Services to request to write an out-of-district MDPT.
  4. After receiving confirmation and instructions from Assessment Services, you can register for the MDPT through UFV Office of the Registrar. There is a $50 fee for the exam, plus any other registration fees. Note that you will also be responsible for providing your proctor with a pre-paid courier return envelope. When registering for the Out of District MDPT please quote the Course Registration Number (CRN) found in the table below.
