You are required to have work experience with children/adolescents in a variety of settings. This work experience can be from volunteer or work positions. While all experience is valuable, classroom volunteer work with the age group with whom you want to eventually work is strongly recommended.
Submit a 2-page résumé outlining work experience relevant to a teaching career and provide details about the types of experiences you have had with children and adolescents in all of these environments:
The UFV BEd program is committed to social justice and anti-racism. With the goal of creating a community of teacher candidates who more accurately reflect the diversity of students in our K-12 public schools, we are seeking to increase representation from diverse communities. Applicants have the option of attaching an additional page to their résumé that describes the ways in which they see themselves addressing this deficiency in the K-12 school system. Résumés should be sent directly to admissions@ufv.ca.
Two confidential references from professionals are required to support the application. These should be provided by individuals who have seen the applicant work with children/adolescents in an educational context. A Referee’s report form with guiding questions needs to be submitted by the referee and e-mailed directly to admissions@ufv.ca.

If you will be completing your undergraduate degree by the end of the Winter 2023 semester, you can still submit your application to the BEd program. Should you receive a conditional offer of admission, you must submit a letter of confirmation and/or final official transcript indicating completion of your degree and required course work by mid-May. This confirmation needs to be sent directly from the Completion/Department Advisor to the Admissions Office at admissions@ufv.ca
If you are completing your degree at UFV, a confirmation letter is not needed, but your graduation request must be approved for the June convocation.
If you are a current UFV student, all communication regarding your application status, (such as admission decisions, waitlist notifications, and seat offers) will be sent to your myUFV student email account. If you are new to UFV, all communication will be sent to your e-mail address that you used to set up your EPBC account. Applicants are responsible for checking email accounts daily for any correspondence.
You will be invited for an admission interview to the Bachelor of Education if you have met all academic admission requirements. The admission interview normally takes place in-person at the Abbotsford campus. This year we will offer virtual interviews following a Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI) format. The interview cycle begins with a short introduction and orientation to the process; then you will move sequentially through four different interview stations, each occupied by a single interviewer. Each station will take 10 minutes to complete. You will be given a prompt, a scenario, or an image that you will review for two minutes in front of an interview room. After you have read the prompt, you are asked to enter the virtual room and you will meet the interviewer. You will then have seven minutes to respond. Should you not be able to speak for the full seven minutes, the interviewer can ask you some follow-up questions. A signal will be given when the interview time is over and you will proceed to the next interview room where the process repeats itself. The entire interview cycle takes about one hour and facilitators are on hand to help you.
The MMI is designed to assess critical dispositions and abilities vital for successful completion of the UFV Bachelor of Education program in preparation for a career as a teacher in BC. During the MMI process, you will respond to issues relevant to the society in which you live and to the BC education system which you hope to join as an educator. This is not a traditional interview format, where you are asked to “give an example of when you….” Rather than focusing on your description of prior experiences, which are detailed in your application, the MMI stations are designed to illustrate how you think and respond in the moment. You are assessed by four separate interviewers. There is no preparation required for the interview process, as you respond to questions or scenarios that demonstrate how you think, how you communicate, and how you problem solve. Indirectly, you will also demonstrate your capacity to be flexible in your thinking, your general interest in learning, and your sensitivity to others.
The Criminal Record Check (CRC) is only required after you have been admitted (or conditionally admitted) to the Bachelor of Education. You will receive detailed instructions after an admission offer has been given. The CRC check will be administered through the Ministry of Public Safety and the Solicitor General. You should not obtain a Criminal Record Check in advance as any prior criminal record checks undertaken outside of the Teacher Education office will not fulfill this requirement.
If you have been convicted of, or given an absolute or conditional discharge, or received a pardon on a criminal offence and you are considering a teaching career, you should contact the Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB) for clarification of your status before undertaking a Teacher Education program.
Applications open November 15, 2022, and close January 31, 2023, for admission into the July 2023 cohort. You will receive a notification of your acceptance from the Office of the Registrar by the end of March 2023.

Arrange for three referees to complete the Professional/Academic Reference Form. Referees will need to attest to your capacity to undertake an advanced degree in the area of leadership and mentorship. Upon completion, please instruct referees to submit this form electronically to admissions@ufv.ca.
Submit a copy of your current Certificate Verification Card. Please be aware that you will be asked to show your original card on the first day of class.
Indicate if you plan to supervise/mentor a UFV teacher candidate at any time during the two years of the Master of Education program.
