Résumé (program preparation)
To strengthen your application, it is recommended that you have volunteer or work experience with children or adolescents in a BC public school K–12 classroom setting, specifically with the age group you intend to teach. See Tips to Prepare for UFV’s Teacher Education Program for more information.
Submit a résumé (maximum two pages, in PDF format) outlining your work or volunteer experience relevant to a teaching career directly to admissions@ufv.ca including your name and UFV application number. Be sure to include specific details about:
- Your work or volunteer experience with children/adolescents in classroom environments.
- The number of hours you have spent gaining this experience, and the responsibilities you had.
- The types of learners you have been working with.
- Any teaching-related professional development or certificates you have completed.
- All languages you are fluent in.
Important: If your résumé exceeds two pages, only the first two pages will be reviewed as part of your application. We recommend prioritizing your most relevant experiences working with children or adolescents in classroom settings, rather than focusing on a broad range of non-classroom-based experiences.
Optional Statement
The UFV BEd program is committed to social justice and anti-racism. With the goal of creating a community of teacher candidates who more accurately reflect the diversity of students in our K-12 public schools, we are seeking to increase representation from diverse communities.
As part of your application, you have the option to include an additional paragraph in your résumé briefly describing how you see yourself contributing to greater inclusion in the K–12 education system. This may include your personal experiences, community engagement, or unique perspectives that can contribute to addressing gaps in representation and support within the educational system.
Important: The optional statement should be included as a third page with your résumé with the subheading Optional Statement and a maximum of 100 words. If your optional statement exceeds 100 words, only the 100 words will be reviewed as part of your application.
Letters of reference
Two confidential references from professionals are required to support the application using the Referee’s report form. These should be provided by individuals who have seen the applicant work with children/adolescents in an educational context, such as a certified BC K-12 public school teacher the applicant has volunteered or work with. Additional letters of reference will not be included in your application package to the Bachelor of Education program.
When selecting references for your teacher education program application, it is important to choose individuals who can provide an objective and professional assessment of your suitability for a career in education. Referees should not be relatives or family members or anyone unable to speak to your professional or volunteer experience with children or youth in educational settings.
Important: A Referee’s report form needs to be completed by the referee. The referee needs to e-mail this form directly to admissions@ufv.ca from their email address, preferably from their work email address. References sent from the applicant’s email address will not be accepted.
If you are in the last semester of your undergraduate degree
The deadline for undergraduate degree completion and EDUC 200 and 300 is April of the same year as the BEd intake.
If you are completing your undergraduate degree by the end of the winter semester (January-April), you are still eligible to apply the same year as the BEd intake.
If you are completing your undergraduate degree by the end of the summer semester (May to August), you are not eligible to apply the same year as the BEd intake. Applications for the following BEd intake will open on October 1. Please refer to the BEd Admissions Checklists under Prospective Students for more information.
Conditional admission requirements
If you receive a conditional offer of admission, you must provide proof of degree completion by mid-May:
- Non-UFV students: Submit a letter of confirmation and/or final official transcript indicating the completion of your degree and required coursework. This must be sent directly from your department (typically from an Academic Advisor) to UFV Admissions at admissions@ufv.ca.
- UFV students completing their undergraduate degree at UFV: A confirmation letter is not required. However, your graduation request must be approved for the June convocation.
Admission interviews
Applicants who have a competitive score for academic and program preparation requirements will be contact in late February or early March to be invited to an admission interview for the BEd program. Interviews typically occur in the first two (sometimes three) weeks of March. The interview process follows a Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI) format and is conducted virtually.
How the interview works
The interview session begins with a brief group introduction and orientation to the process. You will then proceed individually through four different interview stations, each with a different interviewer.
- Preparation time: Before entering each interview room, you will be given a prompt, scenario, or image to review for two minutes.
- Response time: Once in the virtual room, you will have seven minutes to respond to the interviewer. If you do not speak for the full time, the interviewer may ask follow-up questions.
- Transition: After your time in the session is completed, you will move to the next interview station and repeat the process until you have completed all four interview stations.
You will then meet as a group with the facilitator for short debrief.
The entire interview session lasts about one hour, with facilitators available to assist you if needed.
What the MMI assesses
The MMI evaluates essential skills and dispositions needed for success in the UFV BEd program and a future teaching career in BC. You will discuss topics relevant to society and the BC education system.
This is not a traditional interview where you describe past experiences. Instead, the MMI focuses on how you think, communicate, and problem-solve in the moment. Each station is designed to assess your:
- ability to analyze and respond to new situations;
- critical thinking and adaptability;
- interest in learning; or
- awareness and sensitivity toward others.
No interview preparation required
You do not need to prepare in advance. The MMI is designed to assess your natural responses rather than rehearsed answers.
By participating in this interview process, you will showcase your ability to engage thoughtfully, communicate clearly, and navigate complex scenarios—essential qualities for a future educator.
After you apply
Check your application status through the UFV Applicant Portal and contact UFV Admissions at admissions@ufv.ca including your name and UFV application number for questions.
Applicants are responsible for checking email accounts daily for any correspondence. If you are a current UFV student, all communication regarding your application status, (such as admission decisions, waitlist notifications, and seat offers) will be sent to your myUFV student email account.
If you are new to UFV, all communication will be sent to your email address that you used to set up your EPBC account. If you need to change your email address on your student account, see Office of the Registrar Change of Address for more information. For help, contact the Office of the Registrar at reginfo@ufv.ca.
You will receive a notification of the admission decision from the Office of the Registrar by email by early May.
Criminal record check (CRC)
The CRC is only required after you have been admitted (or conditionally admitted) to the BEd. You will receive detailed instructions after an admission offer has been given. The CRC check will be administered through the Ministry of Public Safety and the Solicitor General. You should not obtain a CRC in advance as any prior CRCs undertaken outside of the School of Education will not fulfill this requirement.
If you have been convicted of, or given an absolute or conditional discharge, or received a pardon on a criminal offence and you are considering a teaching career, you should contact the Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB) for clarification of your status before undertaking a teacher education program.
