Faculty of Science

Preparing the next generation of scientists

Science is moving forward faster than ever before — and science is needed more than ever to meet the challenges facing the planet.

UFV's Faculty of Science encompasses programs from a number of disciplines such as: agriculture, biology, chemistryengineering, physics, geography and the environment, computing science, and mathematics and statistics.

At UFV, lecture study is complemented with lab work, so that students get to learn and practice lab techniques and procedures that are commonly used in modern laboratories.

Providing students with real work experience is important to UFV. UFV has a co-op program in which students can apply to and receive official acknowledgement of their participation in paid, relevant work experience as an undergraduate, making them more desirable to employers after they graduate.

For students wanting to attend grad school, UFV offers honours degrees in Biology, Physics, Mathematics, or Physical Geography. Having small class sizes allows UFV science students to develop relationships with their professors who can later supervise their honours projects.

UFV’s Bachelor of Science with a major Biology is one of the most lab-intensive programs in British Columbia. Under the guidance of committed instructors, students develop the critical hands-on lab and research skills needed to launch a successful career in the field.

Fields that are in highest demand in Canada include computer science, math, engineering, natural and applied sciences, data science, and statistics. Job opportunities exist in government agencies, research and development firms, tech startups, health organizations, environmental consulting companies, manufacturing industries, laboratories, food processing plants, telecommunications firms, biotechnology firms, mining companies, and more.
