Learning and development

Engage in professional development activities to develop job-related skills, expertise in subjects related to UFV curriculum or knowledge and expertise in teaching and learning.

UFV's learning and development workshops

Take advantage of free learning and development programs including career-building workshops, computer skills training, internal processes training, critical soft skills development, and health and well-being workshops.

Professional development fund

Use your professional development fund to attend conferences, seminars, and workshops, get tuition support or pay for annual professional memberships and resource materials.

Service Improvement Training Fund

This fund was created to provide group training for unionized employees in a department or area. A completed application form with any supporting documents must be sumbitted to Human Resources indicating the intended audience. 

Training & development allowance

The training and development allowance is a supplement to the in-service professional development fund. Use it toward your internet connection, computer purchases or eligible research expenses.

Tuition waiver

As a permanent employee, you may apply to have the tuition fee waived for approved UFV courses for you, your spouse and/or your dependents.

Tuition assistance

Claim additional tuition funds toward eligible education plans if you have exhausted your in-service professional development fund and training and development allowance.

Faculty sabbatical leaves

Take time away from work to engage in a program of research or other appropriate scholarly activity, acquire new competencies or credentials, or engage in approved teaching and learning activities.

Staff educational leave

Apply for a short- or long-term assisted leave to upgrade your skills and engage in career development activities.

Teaching faculty research and scholarly activity options

Request a one-course or equivalent teaching load reduction when you have a project which is too substantial to be completed as part of your regular workload.
